Fall of 2019: Seeking the Aurora is a collection of photographs taken on a road trip around Iceland.
One of my main photography goals during this trip was to practice capturing waterfalls - I got very good at setting up my tripod and manual shutter release at the drop of a hat. I had never traveled with a tripod before, but I couldn't have gotten these shots without one.
Iceland makes capturing beautiful photos easy. Everywhere I looked, there was a landscape just begging to be photographed. There was bright moss or dark volcanic sand nearly everywhere, and so many rivers and beaches we never went a day without seeing one.
Animals are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. In Iceland, there are more sheep and Icelandic horses than people! You'll notice some dramatic lighting in the photos in this collection, mostly caused by Iceland's early hour of sunset in the fall.
The goal of the entire trip, however, was to photograph the northern lights - even though my tripod broke midway through the trip, and the wind made it nearly impossible to steady my camera, I still managed to capture the (slightly blurry) aurora borealis on camera.
